Darlington Railway Museum

My Review of the New, Renovated, Railway Museum In Darlington.

New Layout

As you walk through the door you are greeted by a peep of a whistle as the electric doors clash, and as you walk towards toward the Desk you see a doorway, your doorway to Trains, In the background Past the desk and gift shop.

When you have passed into railway world you are face to face with a board telling you the history in little fun sized chunks starting from right and swinging to the left, then you are confronted by Locomotion No1 the oldest in the line of 4 locos then is Derwent and then, well i cant remeber but I got some Photos  and then the almighty, Darlington built, Q7 that you can stand in the Cab of and be an engine driver! It is the replacement for the Long standing A2 Blue Peter... Its all a big Timeline!

Paralel to the Tracks are interactive displays featuring all kinds of fun activities and also a model of the old S&DR along the wall. Also along side the tracks are new boards telling you information about the Railway And the locomotives used.

As you come to the end of the timeline there is a small coridor leading to a coffee shop. along the coridor is a childrens play area full of toys (lol). And a small wooden railway.

As you are about to leave you will notice a seperate room to the right as you come from the main hall this has all sorts of other historical artifacts in it.

I nearly forgot to mention... as you walkin from the entrance there is a room to the right with a big TV where the old entrance used ot be and a few couches where the old gift shop used to be. It is worth watching the TV for a while to get an idea of what the museum is about.

The New Q7 Loco No 901

The Area Beside the Museum Taken from Inside the Cafe Outside the Goods shed. Note the 25 tonne Crane Lifting... a steel Fence?

The Area to the back of the museum with all the fun stuff and Information boards.

A Great view Here showing the new Q7 loco and The Earlier Locomotive. Ok so here to the right is the start of the timeline going behind me and also the entrance. To the left are some Games and the Info Boards Oh and the waiting room. The Cafe is down a coridor on the right Back wall. (Taken from the footbridge.)

Ok Here is an image That shows Derwents Cylinders and the Back of the Info timeline boards... I like these because as you walked into the old museum you saw everything from walking inside the door Now You have to walk all the way round and have a good time on the way! (I nearly Lost my Camera in this shot I had to stick it through a portal in the Board No bigger than an A2 piece of paper and i couldnt get my Head through with my Arm so if I dropped it it was gone forever!!!!)
